Pencil Philanthropy: Charity Art Auctions

The 2013 Charity Art Auctions connected everyday philanthropists with 3 worthwhile causes, and rewarded their generosity, with hand-drawn artwork.

2013 Charity Auction PortraitsThese hand-drawn custom pencil portraits, were auctioned one at a time, every month from January thru March 2013, in exchange for a minimum $50 donation to charity, with 100% of the funds going directly to the organization.

The three auctions, raised funds to benefit:

January: Sandy Hook School Support Fund:
Provides support services to the families and communities of the victims of the Sandy Hook/Newtown massacre

FebruaryRoom to Read:
Promotes children’s literacy by developing a habit of reading among children in developing countries, as well as helps achieve gender equality in education around the world

March (Women’s History Month): Girls Scouts USA:
Building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

How it worked:

  • Each month, starting January 22nd, I put up an eBay listing for a Custom 8″x10″ Pencil Portrait Drawing from a Photo.
  • Once the auction was over, the winner’s payment went directly to that month’s charity thru the eBay Giving Works program.
  • Each winner had 2 weeks to email or snail mail me a photo of their choosing.
  • Upon receipt of the photo, I created and mailed the finished drawing out to the winner, based on their photo.

I’ve taken a hiatus on these auctions to pursue other philanthropic projects, such as teaching for A.D.I, but If you’d like to be kept informed of any future auctions, and which charity I am currently fundraising for, please enter your email below:

Thank you all for coming together and making a difference!
