Théophile Gautier, among others, told us that the only “true” art is that which is conceived for its own sake: “L’art pour l’art” — Art for art’s sake.
But if that were true, then I could not call myself an artist. For to me, one of the greatest joys of making art is having it serve a greater purpose. And that is why many of my pieces are inspired by, are calls to action for, and are directly beneficial to, philanthropic causes that I care about.
