I painted these portraits as part of a releasing process, where I loosened up my brush strokes and parted from my typical hyper-detailed approach, in order to experience greater freedom not only in my painting, but in my life, which I felt had become rigid with stress.
These two small paintings represent a new chapter of experimentation and adventure, as I break away from the habits and a career that confined me, and these young women represent the watching and knowing that comes from self-reflection. They look back at the viewer, unconcerned, as if to say “I see you, and I hear what you are saying, but I’m still going to do what’s best for ME.”
If that resonates with you, and you are ready to go on your own journey of unburdening and self-assurance, you can buy one or both of these paintings by contacting me to calculate shipping and clarify your framing preferences (with or without a plexiglass cover, etc).
Videos of these paintings as they were painted are coming soon, so check back for updates!
